The young person needs to develop a mind of his/her own, and learn to make healthy choices, instead of seeking to fit in at any cost. The person need to anticipate situations that will arise, e.g. being offered drugs, and decide in advance how they will handle these situations according to their values. They must learn not to give in to the "herd" influence, i.e. "everyone is doing it so it must be all right for me to do it."

Peer pressure is a powerful influence. So try to hang around with a group who maintain positive values and principles. Try to set a good example for others. Some will reject or ridicule you for maintaining your values, but others will seek you out as a friend because they have the same values and standards as you. Try to be a good "role model" for each other.

Mature adults (and not all are mature!) can also be role models and confidants. Find some adults, or even one, whom you really respect and with whom you can communicate, and seek their opinion about controversial behaviors and issues. Experienced and wise adults can be wonderful inspirations and sources of insight regarding how to maintain your own integrity in the face of the many temptations that you face as a young person.

Congratulations! Just by asking this question you are showing that you want to be a person of principle, and you want to set a good example for others. That shows a mature attitude and motivation to do the right thing. That gives you a great advantage in being the kind of person you want to be.

It was said 2000 year ago that the goal of life was to get through it without being polluted by the world. Unfortunately time hasn't made it any easier. The key is to surround yourself with positive influences.
Look at your friends and are they helping you or harming you with negative moral influences?
Also look at yourself as well, are you a positive influence on people as you should?
Look at you music collection and are there songs that use the f bomb, refer to women as b's or just a sex toy? Eliminate anything that is a negative influence that you may have unwittingly collected.
The focus has to be on one's own self, as you can not force others to change their behavior, so worry about yourself. By caring for yourself appropriately you will be able to be an example to others.

First they have to quite deceiving themselves because they do immoral things but think themselves to be basically moral. Here is a link to the Josephson Institute which does a national character survey every two years. Their findings are quite interesting:
