Wow, five troll answers in a row...that's surprising. But onto your question: In fact, it's not WWE Management who gives the wrestlers their stage names, it's the wrestlers themselves. I've seen three reasons for this: 1) The wrestlers give themselves a cool sounding and/or intimidating stage name to make up for their average or normal sounding real name. eg. Michael Hickenbottom => Shawn Michaels 2) The wrestler is foreign and has a name so different from American names that the average viewer would have no idea how to pronounce it. eg. Dalipsingh Rana => The Great Khali 3 and the most important) No matter what, WWE wants this. Having the wrestler use a stage name allows WWE to copyright their name and likelihood.

There are a few reasons:

Copyrights. WWE owns certain names like Santino Marella, Salvatore Sincere, Prince Albert (as well as A-Train) Marcus Corvon, and Chris Masters, so if those guys go to any other wrestling organization, they can't use those names.

Their real names SUCK - Billy Gunn's, AKA Kip James, real name is Monty Sopp. Monty Sopp doesn't strike fear in the hearts of, well, anyone.
