IMO, I think it's still a good album...still a lot of heavy stuff...Ride The Lightning remains my favorite album from them though.

There are some good songs on it, unfortunately, they're not good METALLICA songs. They pretty much dumbed themselves down for mass appeal with this album (and it worked).

It is OK. Definately doesn't compare to Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets. Metallica continue to disapoint every time they put out a new album. The Black album has a couple of very good tracks. Of Wolf and Man and The God That Failed are my favorites.

Master of Puppets is my favorite but I like the Black album too. My Friend of Misery, Sad But True, Holier than Thou, Through the Never are good songs. I don't even mind 'Nothing Else Matters' (which is a brave statement for a Metallica fan, because most people don't want to admit that James can actually sing - its OK for a tough guy to have a soft side as long as its not all soft - its OK to have more than one emotion)

I was disappointed with it when it first came out because it didn't have any fast thrash songs on it like "Fight Fire With Fire" or "Battery". But after a few listens, i started to like it more. True, it's nowhere near as good as "Master Of Puppets" or "Ride The Lightning" but i think it's still a good heavy metal album.

It's just okay.

I was very put off by the lack of bass and horrid mix on "Justice" so when I heard the "black" album; I was pretty much finished with them. I will admit to knowing all the hits from that album, but I could tell you nothing about any of the non-singles.

Just because it's a different direction for them , I don't think it sucks. I thought it was good for the type of music it was. Heck , Alice Cooper did a couple of new wave sounding discs in the early eighties that I liked a lot. I have never had a problem with someone straying from their original sound. Some bands stick with a formula and still get ridiculed so your damned either way too often.

1st album after a great, long roll to show signs of fatigue..& going mainstream. Never liked "Enter Sandman" or "Nothing Else Matters". This was the Metallica album your grandma could like too.

Yeah, a couple of decent tunes on it, but ultimately too soft for me.

It was okay, but it was the beginning of the end. I knew Metallica was dead when I could come home from school at 4 and see "Enter Sandman" on Mtv.

I think it is a quality compilation. SO they evolved and their music caught on with the masses. It will be played long into the future. Wherever I may roam is my favorite cut on the cd, but it is the ultimate classic metal collection.
