All flush, but how varies.
For 726 (Ohio SSBN), 21 (Seawolf SSN), and 774 (Virginia SSN) Class US Submarines they have a porcelien toilet like in your house. The 726 and 21 class use seawater to flush it, the 774 uses fresh water
The 688 (Los Angelas SSN) class Submarines use a ball valve and flushing valve that you have to manually operate each time. If you do not fully shut the flushing water it will overfill into the head until someone stops it.
The seawater comes from a pressurized trim tank, used to trim the boat.
No you do not see any sealife in it, strainers keep them out.
