A stagnant society is a dead society. There will always be progress, good or bad. Always a push for new ideas, new things, new new new. Possibly, partly from boredom, or dissatisfaction with the old. We have to tweak everything, change it, make it better (or not). Partly because of commerce, have to keep people wanting new things, so the will buy buy buy.
And progress feeds on itself. Inventions lead to other inventions, better ones, smaller ones, more efficient ones. There is no stopping it, as long as the human brain keeps thinking.

The question should be: "Why do we value fads and fashions in our society?" Because there has always been that need to have and own something before anyone else does. The desire to be the first to have something unattainable is a goal which influences a lifestyle. All in all we as humans have a desire to look the best that we can in the outside, and feed the careers of those willing to try and modify looks constantly.

No, we won't become stagnant, although the world population will have to cap at some point. I'm 'old school' with history, tradition and Biblical values. I LOVE Victorian architecture. Fads are a sign of testing limits and dissatisfaction. Tch.

I think that many people are naturally innovative and creative. And when these people are free to live as they please. Then their innovation and creation goes on without end.
The only time society becomes stagnant is when people in authority or some religious fanatics (or both) punish and attack others for living in creative and innovative ways. When everyone is forced to conform and be like the majority or like those who are in authority. Then society becomes stagnant.

It is my opinion that change is driven by either the desire to be different and set one's self apart or some people follow fad's because they don't want to the outsider. They want or need to be "A Part Of" what is going on around themselves.
I believe that fashion designers change the market due to the struggle to be the best. the old "Mine is Better than Yours". Competitiveness.
And yes I think they get bored.

lol I hate the thin denims/muffin good situation, the hide up it is so thick evidently like dirt, and the skirts that some females placed on that certainly covers decrease than their undies hide. Oh yea, and adult males who pierce each and every thing on their face, making it look thoroughly metallic. EDIT: I forgot one, have you ever seen the 18 12 months previous females wearing the shirts with Hannah Montanna's face on them? that's blown up so extensive and my cousin has one (she's 12) that certainly has a button you are able to press to take heed to a 20 2nd clip of a hanna montanna music. that's poor.

As I got older, I stick to classic styles and wear jeans most days unless it is for business, then a suit. I am not "high fashion".. Some of the styles kids are wearing leave me scratching my head, like those big baggy shorts worn around or below their butt, also wearing "pajama" bottoms out shopping and to school, what are they THINKING?
