How did you get the check - is it issued from a company or individual that you know, or was it sent to you from someone you never heard of, asking you to deposiit it and send some of it back to them? Counterfeit checks are extremely difficult to spot - even banks take them for deposit. However, if the check is fake, it will ultimately be discovered.

If you want to really know if the check is good, deposit it, and let the funds sit for a few weeks. Then you can be sure.
