hi, i had a planned c-section with my first baby and its the same for this one im pregnant with now which is due end feb/first few days in march (wont go into the long complicated story of why sections!)
you go in hospital the morning of the section (as long as you have no probs) get your gown and the sexy white surgical stockings on, sign your consent form if you havent done it already and wander down to theatre.
they put a drip in your hand (they even numbed my hand first!), then do the spinal block then cathiterise you when you are numb. all you feel is probably what you felt the first time around - just some pressure.
its much more relaxed with a planned section we were all chatting with eachother while everything was being done and you arent so stressed so can ask questions etc. i had blood pressure probs with the spinal but i found the whole thing a lot less intimadating than i thought it would be (even with the bp issues) and the surgeon came and said hello etc before starting which was a nice touch!
plus if its a planned section according to my MW they have now cut the hospital time down to a max of 4 days.
the MW that was in with me even took pics of when my daughter was being pulled out as my hubby was almost passing out and wouldnt let them drop the screen!
good luck.

They will ALWAYS put the catheter in after you are numb and comfortable.
What exactly do you think would be "bad" about it? Compared to an emergency, there is no stress of worrying about a distressed baby, the hurrying of all the staff around you in a panicked state. It's nice and relaxed. There is time to ask questions. It's great to know exactly when your baby will be born and not wonder about whether your water will break in public or if you'll go into labor at 2am or in the middle of bad weather, etc.

A planned c-section is actually more relaxing and less traumatic for many women. General practice is to put in the catheter after the spinal block, but you could ask them. I see no problem and since most women walk to the surgery room, doing it in advance doesn't really make sense. The surgery will take longer as there is scar tissue to cut through.

Don't worry, you will still have the same care & attention & hopefully it will be more relaxed than an emergency section. My second was planned & it went really well.I had the spinal block & they made sure I could feel no pain.It was a much more enjoyable experience than my 1st emergency section.Good luck.

My planned c-section was a lot easier than my emergency on the cath went in after I was under and it was not a rushed thing... It was a much better experience
