There are sensors on most gas and/or electric dryers that are called limit switches. There is normally a high limit and/or low limit sensor. They monitor the heat while the dryer is running and send a signal to the burner (gas) or electrode (electric) to adjust the heat during the cycles. If the limit switch is faulty you will get intermittent heat or no heat at all. You can remove this switch and replace it yourself if you are handy but make sure the power or gas is off before attempting this type of repair. Most appliance parts stores have limit switches in stock. Also check your dryer vent hose to make sure it is not clogged with lint, etc as this can cause a choking effect on the dryer exhuast and trick the switch into a false reading. Best of luck.
