My Daughter does do my grandaughters hair in plaits or pigtails, doesen't use ribbon though, there are lots of lovely girly things to put in their hair nowdays, my daughter used to be an hairdresser and she finds lovely ways of doing grandaughters hair, she looks so adorable, and if I may do a little bragging, she did Alycia's hair in such a beautiful intricate style of plaits for her, and wore a little santa dress and cape for the Christmas party at the creche that the photographer who was there to take pics for local paper wanted her to be in the photo on her own with santa, but bless her she was not having any of it, my daughter was so dissapointed, sorry about the little brag, and anyone who knows me certainly knows I am not a bragger, till it comes to my grandchildren, then I could brag till cows come home...Iol.....I love them so much

I always loved wearing pig tails as a little girl. I do remember that it took my mother quite a while to do it each morning. Depends where you live of course, but many of the young girls today are so driven by fashion and the movie industry, even when they are often very young. They probably don't think it is in style with their friends so they don't wear it. I live in the country and I do see some girls that still wear pig tails on occasion. They look really cute.I drove a school van for a period and it was always refreshing to see a young girl who didn't try to look years older..

My granddaughters wore theirs in French braids when they were young. Not all the time, but they sure looked cute. When I was in elementary school the desks had ink wells. I am certain that a lot of folks remember having the end of the braids dipped into these by the boy at the next desk. That was a long, long time ago.
No ribbons in my braids at that time, just plain.

Braids take a lot of time. I imagine in this day and age, there are more working moms than stay at homes, and there isn;t enough time in the morning for details like braids. Tho a lot of moms do their girls' hair for special occasions. I agree, I think it looks sweet. Also, a lot of little girls wear their hair short, which was almost unheard of in past generations.

I did with my girls who are now 15 and 22. My 15 year old wears two loose braids on the side now and then, no ribbon. My oldest has done it a few times herself. No pig tails though since small.

I put my little girls in pigtails with red ribbons for her Christmas program at school.

That's a good question, i don't really know the answer.
But i will say this when ever something seems old fashioned, or out dated it isn't done any more. Maybe it's thought to be old fashioned? I personally think the ribbons are so cute and attractive.

I agree that the ribbons were beautiful and feminine.
I still see braids and pony tails and pig tails but with coloured rubber bands around them.
They will probably come back in style at some point as most everything else.

My daughter does! Her little girl has lots of unruly hair, and to keep it tidy, she braids it or ponytails it. And Nana has too many scraps of ribbon for her not to take advantage of it! But you're right, these grown-up moussed and sprayed hairdo's look awful on children, so do the teen style clothes. I love to see little girls in braids and pinafores, nothing more precious.

Don't worry...it will happen again. I remember the days also...our ribbons were bigger than our hair...How about the bows on our dress ties! Enjoy the sweet memories. We also need to return to sweetness.

God Bless
