I think the better question is what happened to all of the ACTUAL hardcore gamers? You know, the ones that can look past a game superficially and play it because it's a good game.
People just love to throw that word "hardcore" around...

what exactly is a "hardcore" gamer? that's such a silly distinction.
but anyway, if nintendo is choosing to tap the "casual gamer," women, and children, well then that's a much LARGER demographic than then "hardcore" gamer population, thus more potential sales.
and besides, it's not as if you don't have a choice in what games you play--albeit, "hardcore" gamers may feel silly for playing--and liking--such low-brow games like the zeldas and marios and all the little party games nintendo has been pushing out lately, but then that's their loss; nintendo isn't pushing away hardcore gamers, hardcore gamers are shunning nintendo for being whimsical.

The hard core gamers have been completely catered to by Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo, unable to compete successfully in that arena, stayed focused on its strengths and reached out to other elements of the population. It is a strategy that seems to be working very well. Wii is a hit. Nintendo is making money and surviving in a very competitive market.

there doing that so they can expand the empire and fan base so when most of the world has it they will try 2 make thouse casualls into hardcore people and plus if ur an old person and ur kid asked u 2 get a wii and u played it before ur gonna buy it if u never played it before and u heard about the hype ur gonna be a little curious so this little strategy is just for console sales

because they are looking 4 new customers they know that they would always have money from hardcore gamers but they need more cause they can't compete with the competition they have lost the touch so they are looking at different ppl to buy their products. they best console that nintendo did was snes (super nintendo) after that they lost it. so now they are looking at the kids and girls to buy their products ;)

Buy a Wii and then you can download all the old Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Cube, etc... games that you once enjoyed playing.

probably beccause hardcore gamers dont pay for games? They are out to make the most sales that they can so they market appropriately. parents will buy games for kids and most younger people dont have as much money to spend.

you are right! you should boycott nintendo if you feel so strongly about it. why dont you try computer games. They are just as fun and alot of times they bring out a more creative side to you.try sims two. You get to create people, build them a house, and fulfill there dreams. Its really cool and right now it is on ebay for only 5.99. just search sims 2 and it is the only one for 5.99.

i don't know, but you show me a Mike Tysons Punch out (complete with tattooed face, and patented Biting Moves), and I'll buy the Wii RIGHT NOW.
And I already have PS3... but without that, it's pretty lame!
