Yet, when they make bathrobes, women's bathrobes reach the floor and men's bathrobes come to their knees? Why aren't men's bathrobes to the floor too?

Don't kid your self Wally. The women that wear dresses, their legs do get cold. My aunt that lives right down the street from us, her legs do get cold, most just don't say any thing about it. They also wear pantyhose too.

As far as the house coats go. My ex boyfriend and I had matching floor length house coats that we wore all the time at home in the winter. You can get the length that you want.

Sometimes our legs do get cold. We can always wear pantyhose or tights to keep them warm. A longer dress or gown will cover cold legs better than a short one. Our legs only get cold if we go barelegged on a really cold day.

I don't know why men's bathrobes don't reach the floor. I would think their legs would get cold. Women's bathrobes don't always come to the floor. There are short ones too, which usually come just below the knee. They are better for summer and warmer weather.
Interesting question, Wally.

I guess it's like when you're little. Girls are accustomed to expose their legs by wearing skirts, dresses and shorts. Whereas boys only wear shorts in hot weather. Your face is one example of exposure... you've exposed it all your life, so it's gotten accostumed to weather changes.. some get cold ears while others may get cold noses..
As far as the bathrobes go.. I've heard it has to do with the nordic region and how they would keep warm.. women wore the long dresses while the men wore their "gowns" comes to their knees.

Other than that, I have no idea. lol
But I thought I'd give this question a shot.

you can find mens bathrobes that reach the floor and womens bathrobes that only go to the knees.

womens legs do get cold, some wear leg warmers or pantyhose and some even wear pants when the weather drops.

wonder what century you are living in?

Oh yes, but we just grin a bear it when we wear dresses. Pantyhose used to keep our legs somewhat warm.

As for the bathrobes, most mens are short, but if you look around you can find them in a longer style. I do prefer the long robes, especially in the winter. In the summer I prefer a short house dress type.

We wear dresses to show off our legs and bathrobes for comfort. Men are too clumsy. They would trip if their robes reached the floor. They are not graceful as women are.

We wear panty hose or tights, but our legs still get cold. We just won't tell you about it, is all. Ruins our images.

I really think bathrobes for men are shorter because men used to wear long pajamas, and a long robe would tangle your legs in them. I have a long robe, and I know that when I am wearing sweats and loungers, if I put on my robe with them I am forever untangling the darn thing from my pantlegs. Women used to wear short pj's and nightgowns, and that was never a problem. A practical thing. And I think still, tradition.

But now you can get them in long or short for everyone.

I wear long, thick hand knit knee socks with mine to keep my legs warm.

women are tough, i hope, because just to be fashionable and have cold legs isn't good. i wear shorts in the winter, outside around the house. shorts are so comfortable and my legs don't feel cold. i guess women's bathrobes are like dresses. their negligee may be skimpy. maybe it's just that men don't want to wear something that looks like a dress. mens pajamas often have long pants. there is a lot to this behaviour, thanks for the question.

Well first of all - I don't wear dresses - period - can't remember the last time I even owned one !! So my legs don't get cold. If it's really cold out, I wear long underwear under my jeans - yes they make them for women too !!!

And as everyone has already pointed out, men's and women's robes come in both lengths.

My husband has one that is made of a thick terry cloth material and it goes to his ankles

I think it's just something you get used to. I remember as a child I would get goosebumps on my legs from being cold. It's just something we deal with. As for the bathrobes I don't know.
