I have actually posted a question once about how do you feel when someone licks their fingers to turn a page. The past few days I've been faced with the ultimate. A woman that I work with and I have been working with closely the past few days does this with almost every page she turns! All I can think about is germs, germs and more germs! Everytime I go back to my office, I put anti bacterial stuff on my hands. Today I even mentioned using the finger thing and she responded, "yeah, I know".

Help me please! What should I do?

It's a nasty habit that can also make a person sick. People who lick their fingers to turn pages because they haven't learned the simple skill of turning pages correctly are bad enough, but people who lick their fingers while counting money must be lacking any kind of common sense. Do they have any idea where that money has been?
The money being counted could have been shoved down a stripper's G-string, stuffed in the crevices of a diseased prostitute, used to snort drugs, dropped on the ground, stepped on, sneezed on, and any number of other things and these people wonder why they always get sick.

Tell her to get Lickity Grip...that pink stuff they use to separate money. Tell her to use lotion. You could buy it for her and nonchalantly put it on her desk when she is not there.

Tell her its bad karma and she will be reborn as an untouchable.

Keep up with the gel. There is really nothing you can do with this person. I see gross things all the time. So many people I work with put their fingers in their nose all the time. There is one women who blows her nose in the pool where we all do water fitness. Thank God for chlorine. All you can do is take care of yourself. Your body's immune system is designed to take care of you so just eat right, get plenty of exercise and sleep and you should be OK. Germs are everywhere and there is really nothing you can do about that. It doesn't sound like this women is going to change. Do you have to share this book? I would get my own if possible. Hope this helps, Kim

I hate it when people do things like that. Try mentioning to her about how many germs must be on pages and things and maybe that might do the trick if she thinks about all the germs she is sticking in her mouth.

It's a habit, not an intentional snub. Keep mentioning it when you can do so in a light manner. Maybe even joke about it some. Continue using the hand sanitizer just to be safer. You could even let her see you using it - but not being so obvious as to hurt her feelings or make her feel attacked. Kindness and patience usually work best.

Maybe she has really dry hands and can't seperate the pages without the moisture. If you can afford it, go to an office-supply shop and get her one of those moisture pads made for just that, turning pages, Or get her some hand lotion so maybe she'll stop. It really is a 'dirty' habit, and she needs to stop. You don't need that either, Hon.

Let her know that you are more susceptible to germs than most people and really have to be careful and you would sure appreciate it if she would use those rubber finger thingies instead of licking.

Get her some of the finger thingies,,,show her you really mean it...enlist other co workers to help you convince her...

Go out a buy some clear hot sauce and paint each edge of all the pages of everything in your office, then next time she starts to browse through the magazine she will be cured forever.

You can't entirely avoid germs. Keep using the antibacterial stuff. It helps.
