what is your new year resolution and are you going to stick with it this time?
My new year resolutions are :
1. drink less coffee and drink no more soda - I drink at least 3 to 6 cups a day and I drink way too much soda
2. eat no chocolate - I eat way too much chocolate
3. lose weight - from eating too much chocolate and holiday foods from xmas past (yeah I'm really fat)
4. eat better - I eat pretty healthy (I do eat my greens on a daily basis), but I want to eat even more healthier
5. exercise more - I am so lazy when it comes to exercising, so I really need to push myself.

Kris L - Lately I have been drinking more water than soda, so I have been wanting less soda, and if I want bubbles I will drink seltzer water. Coffee is my greatest addiction.
2. I have a HUGE Chocolate addiction; i won't stop with 1 hersey kiss.
with 3 and 4 I don't like salt in my food and I don't eat canned soup. I usually eat fresh roast turkey wraps with lettuce and mustard. I also love fresh fruits and veggies and I put them in my juicer and make cool juices.
5. I don't take the bus; I take the train, but I see what you're getting at. I will definitely do that (I love walking).
I know its pretty strict, but I have to be with myself.

Okay, I like your resolutions except for one thing ... they are FAR TOO STRICT for you to do them, so you are setting yourself up for failure (the thing most of us do, in fact).
You 'start well' because you want to 'drink less' of the two drinks ... but if you can 'switch' to drinking ONLY DIET soda, and can cut your coffee consumption in half over the first three months of the year, you'll be far better off. Also try drinking MORE 'good drinks' ... but WATCH CALORIES. Try ADDING 8 8-ounce glasses of water a day ... you won't want nearly as much coffee and soda then. When you want juice, you should water the juice down to no more than 2 ounces of juice to 6 ounces of water. It's really actually more flavorful then, but it does take getting used to.
2. DO NOT CUT OUT CHOCOLATE COMPLETELY. Try buying only 'dark chocolate' and get it in truffles or some way that is in a 'very small portion' that you can eat ONE of every day, halfway between lunch and dinner. One Hershey Kiss size is plenty and you will feel 'indulged' if you put this on your 'menu' for the day. As a 'treat' you may have another 'kiss sized' piece as dessert, but only one or two days a week (for celebrations, etc.).
3/4. Losing weight is always a good resolution, but you need a 'good plan' to do so. You should do a diet you can live with, and with that do an exercise plan. PIck FRESH food as much as possible ... learn portion sizes and use them wisely ... try seeing how 'artful' you can make your plates look ... and if you have 'lunch plates' use those for ALL of your meals. Also try eating a big bowl of 'brothy soup' at lunch ... the broth will fill you up but you won't have as many calories ... but BEWARE OF SALT. Canned soup has lots of salt, so learn to make your own soups (you can vary the ingredients yourself, too, which make the soups more appetizing).
5. Try walking more, take buses one stop farther from home, get off one stop farther away from your destination, or park a block farther away ... and when you get used to that, move another stop or another block farther out. Don't use the 'remote' on the TV, but get up and change the channels on the TV or radio. Go to bed a bit earlier, get up a bit earlier and do some exercise in that extra time ... try putting your clothes in a 'far closet' and walk there to get them, then all the way back to where you usually dress, and you'll be getting exercise without really 'noticing' it.
CELEBRATE YOURSELF every day. Look in the mirror and say 'I am getting healthier, I am getting thinner, I am getting better' every morning and every evening, and you'll soon see that you ARE doing all of these things, and that 'celebration' of yourself is actually a very good way to bring this about in reality, too. Good luck, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here's mine for this year: NO drive-thru's for a year.
So, if I go to fast food for a salad, park and walk in vs. being lazy and going thru the drive through. Same with the dry cleaners, the drug store, the ATM.
And at the grocery or mall, no more searching for the nearest parking spot .... park out further and walk in.

So, which ones are you going to be able to tackle next year...they all kind of just mesh together in "I want to be healthier." Make it one resolution, not twenty..you can't stick with so many things. Start off small and then get bigger...that way, you won't fail.
