Line dry means hang the item on a clothing line to dry. If you put the item in the dryer nine times out of ten, the item will shrink. Your best bet is to put the item on a hanger and hang the item up to dry.

Because the heat will will make the shrink. If you tumble dry them on the AIR DRY setting only they won't shrink. But they will have wrinkles if you don't take them out of the dryer right when it stops.

Maybe it'd shrink in the dryer that's why they suggested line or flat dry.

some of my clothing says that and I accidentally tossed a pair of shorts in the dryer and they shrunk so much that I couldn't wear them. they may have a high cotton content in them.
best bet is to just hang them on a hanger in the door way and let them air dry over night..good as new.
it is not uncommon for things to have tags like that. most of the better quality clothing is not meant for the dryer. the dryer can be harsh on clothes and can degrade them over time.

I've gotten those before. It won't actually "hurt" them, but it will probably shrink them. I don't know about you, but my skinny jeans better not shrink or they will be my TOO skinny jeans!
