I'll be honest, I've never seen a crack pipe. But I've seen plenty of weed pipes! When I see people hit them, they usually hold the lighter close to the bowl while sucking in, which sucks the flame into the bowl. They might also hold the lighter so they can see the reflection of the bowl as they drag, to see if it's lit or not. When they're done hitting, many people clamp the lighter over the bowl to keep the weed from burning away too fast.
If I understand correctly, a crack pipe is usually clear and slender? Like I said, I might be wrong. If your son's pipe is colorful blown glass or elaborate in any way, it's probably for weed. The smell is also a good indicator. Do you have the pipe? There's lots of ways you can tell what he was smoking.
Good luck. If it's just weed, don't get down on him too hard :-) Just make sure he's not going to get lazy and waste his life!

If it wasn't a glass pipe then it probally was just pot.. But if it was glass it was probally the hard stuff he was smoking. Not necessarilly crack but could also be meth. You can also smoke crack and meth off of tin foil and some people smoke it out of a lightbulb..

ya he was probably just smoking weed. you have tolight it every time you hit it. i'm sure he wasn't smoking crack lol. don't worry about that. and plus crack pipes are skinny lk pen shaped. if it was just a regular looking pipe then he was smoking pot.

honestly he was prolly smoking pot there are a variety of different kinds of pipes alot of people use trippy colored glass ones and what not. sit down and talk to him in a non threatning way. he might need help goodluck

Meth, aka tweak, is much more common.
"Pretty pipes" are typically connected with hard drugs.
There are distinctive smells for each.
