My 7 month old baby has gone off his food, and isn't really interested in his milk, he was ill last week and i think he had a sore throat (husband also ill with sore throat) and im worried that he isn't eating enough. If i try and distract him i can get five mouthfuls in (three times a day) but im worried that if i force him to eat this will really out him off his food?

When my littlegirl was this age the same happened.
I tried everything and ws so worried! In the end i tried her on frozen frubes, yougurt, sloppy weetabix, and baby rice again she knew how much she wanted, and when she was ready to start eating again she did.
Keep giving him plenty of milk, and get some liquid multi vitamins if your really worried.
Also phone your Health Visitor if it carries on.
Is it possible he is teething? this will affect his eatig habits!

Don't force him. There's no point and it just makes them harder to feed in the long run! I know because my daughter ( 10 months ) has serious feeding issues and oral aversions - some of which I attribute to force feeding her as she was losing weight.
Since this is a recent thing, I'd try to give extra fluids and not worry so much about food itself. If it doesn't resolve on its own in a few days, call your ped and ask for a weight check.
The most common problem with a child who isn't eating much is dehydration. If your child is lethargic, stops wetting diapers, has a " sticky " mouth, or stops drooling / crying, I'd get him checked ASAP at the ER or urgent care centre. A good way to prevent dehydration is a syringe with formula, pedialyte, or watered down juice. A squirt in the mouth every 15 minutes can prevent dehydration if thats all he'll take.
Good luck and I hope he feels better soon!

He could be feeling a little bit unwell, but it's more likely he's just not that hungry. There's a lot going on in his world, and he's understanding more and more of it. Feeding is yesterday's news right now and he'll likely only eat enough to take the edge off his hunger before he's wanting to get back to his busy life.
Assuming that he's eating a little bit, I wouldn't try to forcefeed him. He'll eat when he's hungry. Keep an eye out for dehydration if you really think he's not getting enough, and call your doctor. But if he seems to feel well and continues to gain weight, or at least holds steady, he's just fine.

His throat is probably just sore and it hurts to swallow. Believe me if he gets hungry enough he will eat! Just be sure that the bottles he does eat you mix with pedialite instead of water to keep him hydrated. If you think he is dehydrated then give him dropperfulls of pedialite, that is what my doc said to do with my son when he was sick. Most important is def keep hydrated!!!! Have you taken him to the doc yet?? You may want to make an appt. Good luck hope he is well soon!

My son just had a slight cold and wouldn't eat any food. As long as they are still nursing or taking his bottles, I wouldn't be too concerned. They actually get everything they need from the breast milk/formula. If he is not even doing that, I would call his pediatrician for further advice.

i think he is just not feeling well. his throat may still hurt. I would not worry right now. Try giving him somrthing cold like applesauce or something like that. He will eat when he gets hungry. Maybe he is teething and his mouth hurts. if he is not better in another day or so, contact his docotor

He's fine. He was just sick and is getting over it. Coax him into whatever you can get into him, and leave him be.
Give him juices or whatever he WILL drink from a bottle so he's not dehydrating.
Its normal for kids and babies to not eat or drink when theyre sick, but it does pass.
If he's not getting anything into him, he's lethargic and he's not making wet diapers its time to take him to the ER.

It probably hurts to swallow! Give him Popsicle or some pedialyte, try yogurt, applesauce, blended fruit. Don't worry if he doesn't eat alot he doesn't feel good. He will eat more when he feels better.
