If I remember right, they came in Rice Krispies. I had the diver AND the sub. Baking soda made them work. That would have been about 1957 or so.

Yep, I had the submarine. But, I think that it worked the other way. They sank on their own, the baking soda getting wet and releasing gases, brought them back up.
Lost a couple in some rather large bodies of water. For some reason their navigation systems didn't work that well.

I got a submarine out of a box of cereal that did that, and I do remember the divers, but never had one.

I used to dump out the box of cereal to get the submarine. Then, wouldn't eat the cereal it came with. I used to get in a whole lot of trouble doing that.
