Hey you haven't given the type of operating system on which u r working .Any how i will reply this answer in genral that means in context of WINDOWS operating system.

First ask your dad wheather the connections are intact .
just open the volume icon in the tray and check wheather any tic mark is present BENEATH against MICROPHONE . this tik mark will be automatically gets activaqted so as to reduce the noise while hearing songs or any thing.
By performing the above action i think ur problem will be solved if not try out buying a new set of microphones.

Sounds like someone has the ear bud plugged into the wrong jack.
