...actually, the intrepid space travelers, which you speak of, were on the planet for a rescue mission, and each one of them are attacked by something different, and based upon their own individual fears; the guy, whom you spoke of (...cult horror character actor Sid Haig), with the piece of broken crystal traveling up his arm, just under the skin, is just about to take one of his triangular crystal weapons, and cut off his arm, before the broken piece of crystal reaches his chest. Then, the severed arm is going to come back to life, pick up the guy's other crystal weapon, and hurdle it right into his chest, killing him...
...the film that you're referring to, is the 1981 sci-fi/horror shocker, "Galaxy of Terror"; unfortunately, the film still has not seen release on DVD, and the VHS is long out-of-print...
...the film also starred Edward Albert, Ray Walston (...right before he achieved cult status, starring as Mr. Hand, in "Fast Tinmes at Ridgemont High"), Erin 'Happy Days' Moran, who meets with a rather grotesque and constricting death, and finally, an early appearance by Robert England, who would of course, in a few years, achieve his own iconic status, as a certain demonic, razor-clawed dream maniac...
...a young fledgling filmmaker...oh, I think his name was JAMES CAMERON, was one of the unit directors, for this film
