You are speaking of the Shettles method. Google it. Supposedly if you have sex on the day of ovulation you will conceive a boy and 2-4 days before ovulation to conceive a girl. He boasts a very high success rate (something like 90%) You have to follow all of his methods though not just the date you have sex on.

EDIT: I never said I believed it (especially the 90%) but I am just stating what the method says about it's success rate.

Boy sperm swim faster but die sooner than girl sperm. Girl sperm swim slower, but live longer. It is believed that if you have sex before ovulation (2 days before or so) that by the time the egg is available the boy sperms are no longer living. Conversely if you have sex on the day of ovulation the speedy boys make it to the egg before their slower girl counterparts. WebMD.com has an ovulation calendar and pointers (that aren't too weird) to help sway the odds in your favor. That being said, I don't think you can sway the odds too far away from the usual 50/50 shot you get from nature. We followed the webmd calendar and my husband pulled out 1/2 way before ejaculation (to leave the sperm further away to start with) when we were trying for a girl. That method worked for us and for 4 other couples we told about the idea. Now, 5 couples is hardly a proof that it works sized sample, but it worked for us. Good luck to you!

90% seems extreme. The PH level of the vaginal fluids may vary during the cycle. This may allow the gender specific sperm to have more of a chance on particular days. Male sperm (being lighter) have a slightly better chance and indeed more boys are born. (Girls are generally healthier however and have a lower mortality rate.) Even with machines and chemicals, my sister who runs a dairy farm can't get a guaranteed 90% rate on the sperm for her cows. So just doing days won't get you that rate, I'm sure!

Whether its true or not it hasnt been proven, but they claim you can better your chances of having the gender you want by having sex at certain times either right before or during ovulation.
They say if you want a girl have sex a few days before ovulation allowing the "male" sperms to die off.
If you want a boy you have sex during ovulation because the "male" sperm swim faster than the "female" sperm.

the sex of your baby is determined as soon as the baby is concieved and its dertermined by the fathers sperm. each sperm has either an x (female) gene or a y (male) gene and the sex of the baby id determined by whether the egg is fetisised by an x or a y sperm. this process is completely random and there is no way to change or influence it.

uhh no.. Every man has one X chromosome and one Y chromosome. When he produces sperm, each sperm ends up with half of the genes that every person needs (because the other half comes from you). So, each sperm gets either the X or the Y. Half of his sperm are X and half are Y. He makes the exact same number of each. So no date is going to have anything to do with it...It depends on the father..

Nope but I have heard that if the male keeps his body temperate colder you have a better chance of having a girl and if he keeps is warmer you will have better chances of having a boy!

No. The only way you can choose the sex of your baby is with genetic manipulation....anything else is an old wives tale.

It is a myth. There is no proven method to select the sex of a child.
