See you've had trouble with stopping distance then.( other peoples) :-p
I love driving in snow, but we don't get any now.
Best is doing a 180 or 90 degree turn in front wheel drive car,
by full lock on and hand break full on from standing start.
Kids who have never seen snow or driven in it leave brown marks on the seat.
Doing 360 on ice with rear wheel drive is cool to. :-)

I live in the country in Montana. I drive about 40 miles to work everyday and 40 miles home. In MT they do not salt the roads and the side roads hardly ever get cleaned off. We don't get snow days either. You are on your own out there. I drive a Subaru with all wheel drive, which is a very popular car here. I run snow tires on my car and I am ready for most anything. The worst part is the unpredictable morons that think they can fly along without a problem. The other problem is the semi drivers that cause white outs and other problems. I had one pass me on a curved bridge and completely blind me. It was an S curved bridge and I was at the beginning of it. I thought I was going to die. Another time I went into the ditch because I was behind a semi and could not see a thing, They NEED bigger lights on the backs of their monster rigs, I nearly ran into one. I agree with you there should be a winter driving test. How to stop on snow and ice, never to step on the brakes over a bridge. everything in slow motion and how to turn into the skid.etc. I also wish the semi's would stay off the road during extreme weather. They are responsible for about 1/2 the deaths on the highway I would bet.

Hayseeds know how to drive in the snow. It's them dang city boys who depend on their disc brakes instead not driving faster than they can see and using the engine to slow them down.

It's worse in the East. They get three inches of snow and whole cities shut down.

i think that there are some people that just have no common sense...they should have some kind of a special class that they should have to pass that teaches them how to drive in the snow-safely....

but i was born and raised in maine...and have been driving since i was like 10...but i live out in the middle of no where and there hasnt been police on these roads in years.
