Maybe they do it because they don't feel as old as their gray hair suggests and they want their hair to look how they feel.

I have natural platinum blond hair and everyone thinks I dye it. I didn't put any chemical on mine until I had my son and hormones changed the platinum to a dull grayish mousy weird blond. Now I get highlights and that helps. It is still platinum blond naturally but a shade darker with highlights. I am waiting for it to go completely white like my grandpa's did when he was in his early thirties. Then I wont do anything to it.
My mother has dyed her hair from the time she was in her teens and we have no clue what her natural color is. I think it is black with a hint of auburn but who knows now.
I hate to see older people dying their hair black. It looks so bad.
I doubt that American are the only ones that dye their hair. I have seen plenty of pics with British folks having blue, green or bright red hair.

When I was younger I used to dye my hair sometimes because I didn't like the mousy brown it was. Then when the grey started coming in I let it come in and was didn't feel the need to cover it at all. I love it! It is about 75 % silver and I like the way looks with my natural color. I earned 'em and I' m keeping 'em ; )

Some men look so hot when they let it stay gray. Look at Pierce Brosnan (Irish).
I know some Americans that let it stay gray too. Look at Richard Gere. Not as hot, but yes, he left it gray.

I don't have gray hair yet. But when my hair turns gray, I will dye it my natural color. 2D

I agree. Except it's not just Americans. I worked for an Indian man who dyed his hair black. It was ridiculous.

When your hair turns grey, feel free to not dye it. It's your hair after all.

I don't. but my hair is a nice silver. My friends with yellow gray color theirs.
