My dad is the one who misbehaved-and coerced us into being his cohorts. He would put odd foods into peoples carts without them noticing and act in very un PC ways to embarass and humiliate us. I think my mom took us to the store with her as little as possible.

I was well-behaved in the store (a big chain that smelled funny and people could smoke in). Once, while riding in the seat-basket of the shopping cart, I reached out and accidently knocked a glass bottle off a cosmetics counter, leaving a white creamy mess on the floor. Mom was very unhappy. As the friendly clerk showed up with a mop, I said: "Sowwy, mommy" and mom's face lit up--to my knowledge, it was the first time I'd ever said I'm sorry! I must've been about 2 then.

Do you know Wally I never actually remember going food shopping with my Parents. They used to have an account at the local shop and I remember taking the shopping list down there and then it was delivered the next day.
They both used to work full time so I don't think we ever went food shopping as a family.
I've really missed out here. I obviously didn't do 'I want this and I want that'
I WANNA GO TO THE SUPERMARKET NOW!

My brothers and I were made to wait in the car. I guess it was safe then. When we were older my mom would walk to the store sometimes and one of us would have to go to help carry the groceries home. It never occurred to anyone back then to take a grocery cart like they do these days. That was wrong. No, we never played with the food on the shelves. My mom would have knocked us into next week!!!

No way, it was a treat to go to town on Saturday and I wouldn't have screwed up that trip for anything! I loved the grocery store and always helped with the shopping, it meant I got things I wanted. Then there was the drugstore for comic books if I got bored, and I could go to the library and wait there for my parents while I made my book selections for the week.

Usually one of us four kids got to go along with mom while dad stayed home with the rest of us so it was a special one-on-one time with mom that we didn't want to screw up by messing with things in the store. Just a great time and she would always buy a special treat for the lucky one--like a stop at the Dairy Queesn for ice cream in the summer.

Once in awhile -- but when dad paid off the grocery bill, the grocer would put a small bag of loose candies in with the groceries, and that pretty much kept the kids occupied.

I used to bite the veggies on the stand, and open cereal boxes, most of the time mash the bread and push all the cans to the back so short people couldn't reach them, had lots of fun when I was a kid back in the 80's

I usually had to stay in the car. If I had done that in the grocery store, my mom would have had a fit. I wasn't allowed to touch the food or anything on the shelves.

I would pull grapes off in the produce section and eat them or grap a piece of candy from all those bin fulls that you mix and match. I never did anything destructive. My Mom would have made us sit in the car, and I knew I could about always count on a "reward" for going with her.

You don't know my Mother do you coz you wouldn't ask that question if you did! She had eyes in the back of her head that were just as beady as the ones in the front of her head! Did everything I ever did....once and only once if it was naughty! She was a sadistic cow who thought nothing to shoving me in the understairs cupboard and leaving me there, in the dark, for hours. Plus if I did something in public there was the added punishment for being an embarrassment to her. Being beaten with a wooden spoon or one of her, many bamboo canes was enough of a deterrent for me.
