We are day hikers. We were wondering which parks had good winter weather, preferably not too cold.

Ever been to Donner Memorial State Park? Lots of skiing at the Tahoe Donner ski area and hiking trails open for the winter. And Truckee has some great food and lodging too. Not as costly as the other State Parks and quite comfortable and cozy.

Oh, and if you get stuck at Donner Pass in a blizzard, and you see someone with a huge boiling pot of water, run hard...:-)

Top choice for me would be Joshua Tree National Park. Late winter/early spring begins the desert wildflower blooming. Good stuff!!

A few of my favorite hikes there include Pine City, Barker Dam, Lost Horse Mine, and Lost Palms Oasis. You gotta check out Keys View too. I could go on and on. I'm going back in mid January.

I would recommend the Great Smoky Mountain National Park of Western North Carolina. There is so much to do there and in the surrounding area. Lots of hiking, waterfalls, skiing, etc.
