...and that person returns it to the store, do you see that as tacky and unappreciative or do you see it as just life and pretty much accept it? Me, I always include a receipt or a gift receipt with my gifts, just in case.

It depends on the gift.
If it's clothes I don't mind if they return/exchange it.
I wouldn't want anyone to impose their fashion sense on me so I wouldn't presume to do the same.

If it were jewlery or something I put a lot of thought into then I might be slightly offended.

A gift is just that- a gift. It should be accepted and appreciated since the giver did not have to give the gift. I find it very rude and ungrateful to return or re-gift a gift that someone put their heart and thoughts into and wanted to present this to the lucky recipient.
