Hi, If your referring to the one on the sink for the dishwasher, it usually means is has a restriction. Most of them the top/cover just pulls up, then there is a center piece that pulls up/out to clean. Hope this helps.

I assume it was OK before, so it would not be a plug left in the disposer. Water will overflow if the hose builds up enough gunk in it that not all the water can flow through the hose anymore.
You may be able to use a long bottle brush or something like that to clean it out from the top, but usually you have to take off the hose under the sink and clean it out. Not a pleasant job - it usually stinks.

If it is a new garbage disposal Sissey is right. If it is an old disposal that worked fine before then there is a kink in the drain hose or obstruction in the air gap.

there is a plug in the garbage disposal and when the plumber installed it he did not take it out all you have to do is take the hose off between the dish washer and the garbage disposal and look inside . if you see the plug just knock it out with a screw driver and reinstall the hose . should be just a hose clamp on the line between the dish washer and garbage disposal . a simple screw driver does the trick a lot of plumbers forget this part

It is clogged. Either remove the cover or hoses and check them.
