'ing' form of a verb has two names. They are present participle and gerund. Present participle works as adjective, and gerund as noun. But it is often difficult to tell the difference.

I had a hard time finding your office.

a) I had a hard time (while I was) finding your office.
b) I had a hard time (in) finding your office.

In a), finding is present participle, but in b) it is gerund.
