When you're down, your main worry is how to get up, so you claw and scratch your way up and try to keep your head above water. When you're up, your main worry is staying up, and not falling back down, so you claw and scratch in an attempt to maintain the fruits of your labor. Your worries at either stage of the game are roughly the same, and so is the best coping remedy: a balanced perspective on where you are and where you're heading. In that regard, both positions are equally difficult (though you will never convince someone at the opposite end of the spectrum that their postion isn't the most tedious.)
