All marriages starts and break with the 2 individuals who started it! Having an inter racial marriage would add extra strains in a marriage if the relationship was not build on good solid foundation to start with.

Understanding and accepting the racial and cultural differences is utmost important because the lack of these would results in a lot of misunderstandings which when not tackled would turn ugly ( it is the same too for same race marriages). For some people, certain racial cultures and differences are very important so it is in your interest to make sure you learn about these as you build your marriage and always be mindful and respectful to your other half.

Why wouldn't they? Love is color blind fortunately. I think it's a wonderful thing that 2 people from different cultures, different upbringings can come together and love each other for who they are. Obviously they'll have the same challenges as all other couples will face with marriage. If they break up, it's likely due to the typical marriage problems....not because they are an interracial couple!

yes and no.....my husband and i are interracial and well we are completely happy etc. but it wasn't always that easy, his mother didn't accept me when we first started dating, she was old fashioned in the sense he needed to marry a mexican woman so she can cater to him etc and well im all about it being 50/50 and so is he. she even begged him not marry me but he put her in her place at the time now 3 almost 4 years later things couldn't be better. and she just loves her mixed grandchild to pieces. it all depends on if the 2 of you are strong enough to deal with the families etc, but don't get me wrong not all families are like that etc, but then again not all relationships/marriages work so i think it depends on the people in the relationship, and life is going to throw things at you no matter what you do, so you just have to be prepared.

My white sister has been married to a black man for several years now. They seem happy, although it's hard to be sure since they live in a different state and I don't see them much. They came to my house for Thanksgiving last month and didn't mention any problems. I suspect that the interracial component is a small obstacle in a marriage, but not a major one. The major obstacles are the things every married couple has to overcome: money, sex, children, etc.

Marriage is between the two people that take the vows. If you can ignore everyone else's opinions, stares, grimaces and groans and concentrate on making each other happy. . . why not? Race has nothing to do with love, marriage or compatibility? As long as you share similar interests, and ideals.

Some do, and some don't. It's like with any marriage, if you have trust honesty and communication there's a solid foundation to make things work.

If the couple is compatible with each other, and willing to work together to solve their problems, then sure they can. Their different backgrounds can be no worse than interfaith marriages, or people from different economic, political, or social backgrounds.

If you allow them to they will work Talk to people in this type of relationship to see what you are up against, get counceling to find out what problems there might be, if any later on down the road. I do believe they work if two people work at it.
