Not talking about water saving models.
Though, we all should be saving water, but I mean clean clothes.

Top loader type or front loader?

The only time I've used a front loader is at the laundromat a long time ago when I was on my own and single. I don't know that they got anything any cleaner, you could wash more at a time which was convenient.
But the lady that was a dry cleaner sounds like she may know what she is talking about. It makes since that the clothes are using the agitator to get them clean rather than just sloshing around in the water.
I was thinking about getting one this past year but opted for the top loader.
I'm not sure why dish liquid would help get things cleaner unless possibly oily substances.

Top loader bc it has the deal in the middle to help get the dirt and grime out. We have owned both, and the top loader seems to get the most out bc of the agitator. However, either will do with the right type of detergent. For extra cleanliness, add a few tablespoons of palmolive or dawn dish detergent to the wash with your usual detergent.
