I do not know if you class this hostel as cheap, but I found it good and a good location:

Camping is not an option unless you have a car and are willing to drive 60 kms and more to the sights in Paris.

OTOH there are plenty of hostels and private pensions. Hostel beds are roughly 25 EUR per night in Paris, private pensions are 70 EUR per night for 2 people.

Check out sites like www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com for listings. Take the reviews on the sites with a grain of salt, since the sites take a commission and don't allow reviews that are too negative. Best try to find telephone or email contact details and call the hostels and pensions directly.

www.goodmorningparis.fr/ has listings for pensions. Look for "chambres d' hotes"
