Is it true that it is risky to have a baby at 38 years old? My mother is at her 4th month. What are the possible risks?

there are risks at all ages, more as you get older. However the risks are still small at this age. I personally know a ladythat had a child at the age of 45. Her biggest "problem" was the baby is younger than her grandchild!

It's more risky than having a baby younger, but can still be done safely.
My mother had my younger brother at 39. She ended up having an emergency c-section due to complications involving her blood pressure and his heartbeat, but they both came out fine. My brother is now 15 and a strapping young man.
Her doctor will keep a close eye on her and monitor this pregnancy carefully. Don't worry too much!
The biggest risks are blood pressure and chromosonal.

The best age to have a child is between 17-35. After & before those ages, risks increase. As your mom is close to age 35, I don't see immediate danger, but the doctors might be more cautious with her.
I think that she will be ok though. I heard on the news not too long ago that I lady around 63 had TWINS that were perfectly fine..
besides, many women between 17 & 35 have risky pregnancies, but I'd personally classify every pregnancy as "risky" because it is a huge medical thing-- carrying another human inside you!
good luck to her!

Of course there are more risk as you get older but she just has to take extra care of her self. My finaces aunt and uncle are 42 and haveing their first child. I couldnt believe it (it was planned also). I talked to her about the same things and she said that basically all the same risk are there that would be there if she was 25. If your worried have a talk with your mom. She would be more than happy to tell you what you wanted to know. It would also prolly touch her that you cared so much. Enjoy your brother/sister when they get here

Your mother will see her doctor very regularly - and at every visit they will check blood pressure and weight gain and look for infection. They will also test her blood for diabetes.
She will be completely monitored - and at the very first sign of trouble, a team of doctors with lots of experience will take care of her.
She is going to be fine - there are so many woman walking around who had their FIRST baby at/after age 38.
I know your mom seems old to you - but she is actually still young!

There are some increased risks but if she is getting proper prenatal care I am sure they are monitoring her very well. Mom and baby will do well.

some ladies that have babies tend to have difficulties with that. not all the time it a risk though. just pray so everything will be okay. take care of her. and tell her to take care of herself more.

Yes, it's riskier than when the woman is younger, but it can be done. My mom had her 5th and last child at that age, with no complications.

your mother will probably be fine, but your question makes me wonder why you are asking. i can understand your interest to a certain extent, but i think your real problem is dealing with the fact that your mother is a sexual being..i think you feel threatened by her pregnancy and are subconsciously searching for a way to make it bad for her...don't worry about mom, that's not your job...look inisde and see what your real question is..
