I did not have any of the Madame Alexander Dolls. Mine were mainly Barbies. My very favorite one though was one called the Dancing Ballerina. She had a plastic pink crown on her head (she was probably about 18 inches tall) and in the middle of the crown was a knob). When you pulled the knob, you could hold it and she would begin to dance around. I played with that doll until she was completely worn out. My mother still has my original barbie dolls in her attic.

I had a Toni, a Tiny Tears baby doll, a couple of really nice
Madame Alexander dolls. I had a Raggedy Ann doll. I started a collection of dolls from other countries when I went to Europe as a child. I still have that collection.

I remember a Betsy Wetsy, and there were other big dolls that may have had a name, or not, I don't remember. When I was in 6th or 7th grade, I had some small dolls that were the precursor to Barbie, little fashion dolls, and I spent hours and hours making clothes for them. I had a whole suitcase full of small dolls and their clothes! I raided my mother's scrap box regularly, and every ribbon, bit of lace and swatch of velvet were precious to me as I made gowns, and bags, and hats that rivaled the best Hollywood had to offer! I don't think I ever played with them, just made clothes.

I think my mother gave them away to some other little girl when I grew up and left home.

The doll I loved best was called "Baby Bannister", a sweet baby doll. My brother and sisters mocked it unmercifully because the name was strange. I was so defensive of it because I thought its feelings would be hurt. I found out later that it was designed by a well-known baby artist named Constance Bannister. My Baby B disappeared, but many years later I found another one, so I still have a Baby B.

My mother (or Santa Claus) got us older girls the first Barbies with the pony-tails and striped bathing suits. Next, we got the ones with short bouffant hair-dos. So much more practical than the huge unruly hair-dos of today's Barbies. I still have one from the late sixties, with long straight hair, boots, and a "suede" fringed mini outfit.

I remember my Tiny Tears doll, Raggedy Ann, and my favorite...a doll that had long golden curls and a grey and pink satin dress. I was "too old" for dolls by the time Barbie and Chatty Cathy came out. Boo Hoo!

Raggedy Ann was my first one and Chatty Cathy was my second, my third was a walking doll, I think it was Lori or Laurie. I didn't get into Barbies until I was 6 years old. I was born in 1957 so that helps date the dolls.

We (my sister and I had to share): Paper dolls, Barbie, Betsy Wetsy, Little Miss Echo (3 inches tall with a tape recorder in her tummy). I always wanted a Thumbalina (sp?) and dolls from all over the world, but we could not afford them.

Ladies? OK, I really didn't own dolls but got a couple for Christmas.

I had a Jerry Mahoney ventriloquist "doll" to help me in my stage career which never happened.

When I was 16, my mother asked what i wanted for Christmas and I said, "A good looking blonde." She bought me a Barbie doll. I gave it to my little sister.
