My 15 week old wakes up (around) 2 am for a bottle of about 5-6 ounces. She tends to eat every 3-4 hours during the day, with sometimes 6 hour stretches at night. Every morning I offer her a bottle at 645 am before I go to work. She basically will gag when I offer it and fuss. When I take it away she smiles and babbles. Sometimes, and only sometimes, she will drink an ounce or so. When I drop her off at the sitters at 715 she is fussy and hungry! I hung out there today for a bit and she took the bottle from her and ate 6 ounces. She (the sitter) says this happens all the time...she is starving the minute I leave, but will refuse all food if I try prior to dropping her off. This ONLY happens at this time. I feel guilty dropping this "starving" child off in the morning...why do you think she does this?

My almost 5 month old will not eat for at least the first 1/2 hour to an hour after waking up in the morning. Even if he has slept the whole night through. He wants to play. If I try to give him a bottle right away once we are downstairs he won't take it. So I let him play for awhile and do my morning routine. By the time I have cats fed, dog out and back in, his breakfast prepared, coffee made and sometimes dressed he is ready for his breakfast.

Don't worry about it. Especially if you are having to wake the baby up to go to the sitters, it's completely normal for them to want to wait a bit before eating. Just think that your daughter is doing you a favor but not having to spend the time feeding her in the mornings or getting food all over your work clothes causing you to be late for work because you had to change yourself or her after eating!

Try hanging out there again the next time you drop her off and see if she will take the bottle from you at the time she normally takes it from the sitter. If she refuses it from you, but takes it from the sitter, then its because shes become accustomed to the sitter.

Most likely, however, it is a timing issue and she just isn't hungry until the time the sitter feeds her. Babies will eat when they are hungry... you can't force them. They also like schedules and it sounds like your baby likes her structure.

Good luck. :)

She is not starving. She just isn't hungry at that time when you offer her the bottle.
Don't feel guilty, that is ridiculous.
Been there, done that.
Ask your Dr. about maybe starting cereal, yes, I know it's early, but some Dr. will say to offer at a very young age.

she's not hungry. that's it.
i think you might be hurt that your babe isn't taking her feeding from you. you have to realize it's just her schedule..nothing personal.

as a mother who has had children in daycare and a certified early childhood educator i can can tell you that these feelings are normal and healthy. you can't do it all girl! you're working for your baby! don't feel guilty if she isn't ready to have you feed her........and DO NOT feel guilty for letting someone else do the job. that's what you are paying her for!

maybe she doesnt like when you force it maybe shes just not ready to eat. thats how my daughter was, she then wants to eat since she wakes up during the ride to the sitter..
