Sailing ships, spacecraft, antique autos and an occasional airplane. My room was a museum. In the '60s a really nice model was an affordable 3-4 dollars. Now the same ones are a ghastly 18-20 dollars!

I used to put together cars that had a lot of options. When I got thru, there were a lot of leftover pieces. I used these to make weird cars... like one of a kind hot rods. I used a soldering iron to shape the plastic and sometimes would combine different kits to make a "funny car."

Sometimes, we would build them and then shoot them with bb guns or blow them up with firecrackers. Model airplane glue burned pretty good, too.

When I was a kid I loved to put model cars together. I pinched my finger in the gear of a Erector Set too.

Now a days, they made stuff like what we did, so safe, I don't see how a kid could get any enjoyment out of it.

Hell, if what kids today are protected from, we did, we all would be dead as nails by now.

I liked airplanes, but I did do some cars. My very favorite, was the "invisible man and woman" you had to put all their inards in and you could see through the body.

I do remember having gobs of glue stuck to my fingers though

I preferred to make airplanes and spacecraft. I wasn't very good at it, but my brother was great with model cars, and won several awards in shows.

Yes! Funny cars, like Jungle Jim Liberman's! My brother was into classics of the time, woodies and such.

My brother put model airplanes together, if we put one foot in his room he would blow his top. Our little sis accidently knocked over one he was working on and he had a fit. We were never allowed in HIS room again.

My brothers built model cars. I just thought the glue smelled good.
