Seems like when I roof rake I pull the snow right to the gutter system and it ends up building up and icing over. North side facing roof is the biggest problem. There is a rubber liner extending up part way under the roof itself but my concern is that may not be suffient as I see all the build up.

The only things you can do now is to have proper air flow throughout the attic space(You can never over ventilate and attic space), and also make sure that you have a very good insulation level in the attic floor. One more thing that can be done in conjuction with these other two things, is to add ice damn protection under the roof shingle the next time you reroof the house. You will be surprised how effective airflow will help.

the damming is due to insufficiet aiflow / insulation in the Attic. The Best solution is to have goo airflow from the eave to the ridge of the roof.
