the mechanics that work for me are honest and if they are not they do not work for me very long, the problem is the guys in the city's try to take advantage of everyone and it give all of use bad reputation, I have 19 mechanics working for me and we have built a reputation of being honest and taking care of all our customers and I have been doing this for the last 15 years at the same place

I live in a very small town and my husband lives 6 hours away I was taking my car to this one place and they were robbing me blind then I found this little garage and the guy there does a great job for far less and he is wonderful! He is honest does not try to break the bank with just me and does not think I am stupid because I am a woman!! I think Paulino is the best is the world and I tell everyone about him! The old place said I needed new tires because they were over two years old there is a lot of tread on them I took them to the dealer and the place I bought the tires and both said that I would be fine without new tires until the tread is worn down they just wanted more money! They lost my business!

DUDE I worked as a mechanic and I never on purpose tried to screw over a customer, that's bad for business. As it was put to me 1 **** up will cost you 10-20 atta boy's, some times it just is that the mechanic may not have run across a particular problem. me, I usually get the multiple problem sort,so I may have taken care of one problem but due to the fact that there are other probs too it just looks like it's a **** up be cause the customer doesn't have the cash to fix it all.

The majority are but there are some out there ready to make a buck no matter what. As a woman, I'd put a drop on nail polish on every hose and belt I could get to. If a mechanic said I needed something done and I already had it done I show the receipt. If they did something I hadn't had done already, I'd check the part for the nail polish. Twice the part "they replaced" still had the nail polish on it and was in the spot it was supposed to be, go figure.

It depends entirely on the personality of the mechanic. My favorite was a mechanic doing a DOT inspection for me, and after he saw I was willing to return to the station with a light, a ladder and a screwdriver to change a marker light, he pointed out several other problems, but shrugged and said he knew I'd take care of them after he pointed them out.

My husband is a mechanic, he is sometimes too honest. His boss doesn't appreciate this as it probably costs him a lot of money! But my husband says why should he lie to people about work needed on their cars when it could happen to anyone, like us. He doesn't gain from lying anyway.
Some mechanics are ruthless, especially when it's their own business and they are scamming to get more cash out of people.

The percentages of honest mechanics is probably on par to the number of honest politicians*
It sounds like Michael C runs a straight forward business! He can work on my truck!

It took years of getting ripped off and trying a different mechanic, but finally found one that is honest.

Alot of them are just after money, and will sometimes even damage something on your car so they can tell you that it needs to be fixed and charge you a boat load of money to do so.

I would say most are, however some are not. The first time they try a trick like that, never go back.
