I usually have fairly light periods in comparison to most women which are fairly consistent but Im a little freaked out because this time its become a bit heavy - I had to wake up in the middle of the night to change a pad because it was way overfull and thats never happened to me. Now that Im walking around and stuff it doesnt seem to be going as fast as it was for the hours I was lying down. I have been very stressed out in the couple days before/during the start of my period.

Sometimes the period can get a bit heavier when we have been lying down for a bit because of staying in the same position for a while. I've had this happen to me before. The only way to know for sure what's going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

It is perfectly normal to be heavier at night. The blood has nowhere to go to because during the night you aren't going to the toilet etc so the blood is just collecting in the pad. All you need to do is use night time pads when sleeping. Put a new one on just before bed and change it as soon as you get up the next morning and you should be fine. If you find it does get heavier during the day as well though you need to go to the Dr's just to get checked out

excessive bleeding during menses could be caused by a lot of factors. hormonal imbalance is the usual cause, and stress levels usually affect hormone secretion. if your menses become more excessive and continue on for a couple of more days, have yourself checked by a gynaecologist. this may be due to excessive endometrial proliferation and shedding which causes what is called metrorrhagia, or excessive menses. it is caused by excess in the secretion of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. your stress levels might have enhanced their secretion and caused this effect.
