What are your views on America today? Do you think that the Founding Fathers who wrote the Bill of Rights and the Constitution would approve of America today? Do you think that they would be shocked and amazed at what has happened? If George Washington were to come to America for one day and spend the entire day in Washington DC what do you think he would say? Do you think this is what the Founding Fathers invisioned? Most important do you think that the people still hold the power, or do you think its all been corrupted, and we should just function as human beings and live with the decisions made for us?

basically i don't think that the founding fathers were all that upright and honest with their America however i don't think that they would approve of the way it is today. We are all just little pieces in one big chess game. There is nothing any one can prove so there is nothing that we can do about. They deny anything that might leak out. Then again most Americans couldn't handle the truth.

Many citizens feel that the individuals voices are not being heard anymore. Our government has been bought to do the bidding of Special Interests and big businesses. In researching the financial backing to individual candidates I found that all of the front runners have received money from Oil/Gas and Tobacco Industries as well as Lobbyists. With all of them doing that how can we feel that our interests and concerns are a priority?
So does that mean that we throw up our hands and say "What;s the use, we are screwed"? No I don't think so. It means we research the candidates and issues-No more apathy-No more voting party lines. No more tolerance for those who cater to those big spending Industrial interests.
Current predatory lending practices:
Money: Finance and credit companies contributed more than $8.2 million in individual and PAC contributions during the 2004 election cycle, 64 percent to Republicans. Credit card giant MBNA's employees and PAC contributed more than $1.5 million, including $354,000 to President Bush's reelection campaign. The company spent $5.2 million on federal lobbying in 2003.

I think that the power in our country is in the hands of Congress and not the people. We may elect them, but they are all talk to get into office. Once in office, they do whatever turns their own fancy (or the interest groups who paid their tab to get into office). Its as bad or worse than having the British House of Lords, only with out the House of Commons to balance it out.
I think the Founding Fathers would be appalled to see how things work in Washington, D.C. The Bill of Rights has been rewritten in the form of what self interest groups wish it said, i.e. Separation of Church and State, which that phrase appears NOWHERE in the Constitution, the amendment says, "Congress shall establish no religion, nor prohibit the free exercise thereof." Which our society and government has been carrying out the exact opposite of the latter for years.
People could have more power if they exercised it. We have the lowest voter turn out in the world, it is shameful. We have nothing to fear in voting, we are merely too lazy. Our government is chosen by less than a half of our eligible citizenry. And way to many are lunatic extremists. People have no right to complain about our government if we chose not to participate in the process of chosing it.
I don't agree with the election procedure in which certain candidates are barred from the ballot (and debates) merely because someone thinks they don't have a high enough percentage of supporters or enough money in their campaign coffers. I think these 3rd party candidates could put a lot of things on the table for the rest of us to think about. And I'm definitely NOT fond of the country being dominated by 2 parties that have come to the point of opposing one another's ideas merely because the other guy thought of it.
Our Congress has lost its mind, its focus, its purpose and is failing our people and the good our country miserably.

Yes! But only if we take responsibility and make our voices heard. I think that any of the founding fathers would be appalled at the divisiveness and corruption in Washington, but I think that they would hail the Internet as the greatest tool the People have ever had to express their dissatisfaction and promote the free exchange of ideas and ideals.
Power to the People!

Our Founding Fathers would be glad to see that America has lasted this long, but would warn us of the liberal threats to our personal freedoms. Things like welfare, affirmative action, the income tax, gun control laws, the elimination of religious symbols from public places, and socialized medicine are against the principles of freedom and personal responsibility America was founded on, and an honest reading of the Constitution makes this clear.

We haven't held the power since Wilson enacted the Fed Reserve and we abolished the gold standard in '33.

"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country.
A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit.
Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men.
We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men."

"If there are men in this country big enough to own the government of the United States, they are going to own it."

Woodrow Wilson 1913
