i had this done yesterday around 3 p.m. i spotted a little and feel a little sore, i guess, but really i don't feel any different. i had like a couple of moments of cramping right after my dr. did it and no contractions. did you not feel anything for a while too if it worked for you or is this an idication that this probably isn't going to do anything for me?

There is no way to predict. Stripping membranes sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. You could go into labor today, tomorrow, or two weeks from now.

Good luck.

I'd have to say, based on personal experience that it seems to work but not right away. I have a 7 month old, a 5 year old and a 7 year old. I have been induced with pitocin with the first two and they were still almost 9 lbs 2 weeks before my due date. I already knew there was a good chance with this last one as well and my doc, different than the doc for the other two, kept having my come back!! I was kinda getting upset as I didn't want to have csection with this one after avoiding it with the 1st two (i'm pretty narrow through the hips). However, he must have known what he was doing because after my 38 week checkup when I had been induced before, he had checked me again and on the morning of my inducement right after 1 am, I was in labor! This was my least painful and easiest labor and i only had pitocin for a few hours, which I probably didn't need. If I have another I will be more content, painful as it may be, to allow visit after visit of him checking my cervix aka stripping the membranes so I can go earlier without the drugs.

Similar problem as the other ladies I had my membranes swept, at 38 weeks (baby was supposed to be huge) and it did nothing, I had a little bit of discomfort and thought many things were happening, which turned out to be wishful thinking, lol. The Doctor was booking me appointments every 5 days to check my progress as he was a bit annoyed I wouldn't have a cesarean, he decided to have me induced at 40 weeks on my due date but the stripping did nothing for me. I was 50%effaced and 2cm dilated for 2 weeks, lol
You have to wait and see if it works.
Good luck

had it done at 39 weeks with my first. I was already 1cm dilated. Felt a little cramping afterward from the uterine stimulation, lost my mucus plug the next day, but it did nothing else. No more dilation or anything.
I was still induced at 40w1d.

I think it doesn't work more often than it does.

But best of luck. you might be lucky yet!

my dr. did it and i was sore right afterward too... i thaught i was exagerating the soreness but now i feel like i wasn't alone. but after a spotting then i felt normal again. i later got induced and they told me that i was already havin contractions. i couldn't feel them though.... so i guess it does a little something. i know it helps the cervix to dialate a little.

i had mine done but it was another week or more before i actually went into labour... but everyone is different! i was 14days over with number 1 and 5 days with number 2.

My bestfriend had her baby last night, 3weeks early.
So, its just the luck of the draw.

I had to have this done twice with my son before I finally went into labor. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. Good luck to ya!
