my question is this should an mmorpg be run and governed by the players or should it be in terms of gameplay and how the gameplay should be run be governed by the company who made the online game? Only reason i am asking this is because i am currently playing final fantasy online and feel that the game and how it's played is left more to the company who made the game then allowing the players of final fantasy online to play the game they want to play it. some feel differently then i do but to be honest i feel an online game should be played the way the person playing the online game would want to play it rather then have the company dictate you need to be playing the game this way. anyway if this starts a debate i'm sorry for asking it but i feel i should get the opinions and answers of others.

well my whole issue with ffxi to put it mildly is the lack of being able to play the game i want to play it. like in other mmorpgs you can either solo or party but don't have to party unless it's absolutely necessary. where as in ffxi its more party oriented. another issue i have with ffxi is the exp loss on death. it's based off of your level and not off of what the mob that killed you is worth exp wise. and last issue i have is the whole level 30 cap lock on being able to unlock other character classes. i feel a player should be able to pick what class he wants from the get go and not have restrictions placed on what jobs he can be till level 30 anyway like i said sorry if this question stirs a debate it's not meant to

Given the number of people who currently try to spam, cheat, and hack current online games I say that would probably be an awful idea. If a game were to be governed by the users it would quickly become an experience not worth partaking in, let alone pay for, for any honest player.

EDIT:
It sounds to me like FFXI simply isn't the game for you. I disliked it for very similar reasons but I found WoW and Guild Wars to be far more agreeable.

The games are created by companies who pay to create the game and pay for the servers. User input is to be valued and there is a certain level of interest the players have that should be listened to. However, the simple fact of the matter is, a company runs a game as they do for business reasons, and it is up to them to do the best job they can for business, not for the will of each individual player.

There are some MMOs that run a lot more on player input, but not many are as successful as FFXI.

MMORPGS cost 10s of millions of dollars to create, they are created for one reason to make money. All sucessfull games listen very closely to the playerbase because your paying for access. Im not sure what you ment by some of your statements but I do know that your free to find a MMORPGS thats run to your liking. Or you could always gather up 20 or 30 million dollars and build your own.
