I am in the Army and I am now stationed overseas and I met so many people from so many different colors, and backgrouns and you know what? When you're overseas you realize that we're all Americans to every body else and they all look at us as a single group of people.

Here overseas you really stick to black or mexican or white or whatever type of American regardless of skin color because they are Americans like u and all of a sudden that black white or latino person who u used to see as a different race back in the US becomes sort of your people because u two come from the same country which is the US

I interacted with so many people from different races and we're all so similar in the end, perhaps because we're all Americans so we have more or less the same kind of values and mentality which is very different from the Africans and Europeans I've met so far.

Trust me us Americans aren't much like europeans or africans, we more similar to one another than to these folks.

You are so entirely correct. You know, I find myself watching the news every single day, and I try to see the good deeds Americans do for one another as a whole, instead of the bad. I think to myself "there are so many more important things going on, than what people focus on every single day".

This holiday season, I saw people of all races donating to charities for children and families so that that they could find some joy during this season. People of all races, donating not to a specific race, but all races of people. Just people giving to other people out of the goodness of their hearts. I saw good people. Not black, white, Asian, (et cetera)...Just with the intent to do good and help their fellow man.

I watch the holiday shout outs from men and women within the military and it touches my heart and it makes me think, "wow. As a whole, we are a great people, all of us, regardless of race. When you get out of country, you really do sort of forget about race, because you remember you're all from the same country, and where at home you'd belong to "different people" your fellow Americans DO become your people. I couldn't imagine it being any different. I can't picture people in the military segregating into their separate little groups. (we'd have a damn weak military if that were so.

I always see things like this, and wish that all people could see the good hearted people in every race, before the bad, and simply recognize one another as American people, with common goals and strives in life... We really aren't all THAT different from one another. We're all unique individuals but as a people, we are integrated, not separated.

What you said makes a lot of sense and I entirely agree! There are SO many more important things. It's sad though, it usually takes a tragic event (like 911) to bring us together in unification as Americans... Any other ordinary day people segregate back into groups. We should always be a united people...

Thank you for speaking some sense. Most people on here don't! Have a wonderful new year, and thanks for serving our great country!

I think that everyone cares too much about everything superficial and unimportant (race, weight, money, looks - just to name a few). It's a tradition passed down by the unenlightened masses, it's taken years for the enlightened few to be able to help ppl realize that some things don't matter.

Glad to see someone's getting the question out there.

Good morning! I agree with you. When Americans go abroad for military, university, business, etc., we do flock together as a community regardless of race/socio-economic backgrounds, etc. Then, when Americans return to the U.S. and go back into their familiar settings, influenced by family, friends, co-workers; some individuals return to their old habits of picking and choosing based on race/income-levels .... Guess what? I've noticed people from other countries do this, too. Wishing you and your family Happy New Year! :D

Do you think the world would be better if we were blind? People are judge mental and not just with race either it has to do with size too. I only wish that people can see the heart of the person and not at the looks. In my dreams there is world peace. Take care.

specific, and that i do no longer think of it quite is racist in any respect, you're asking this interior the particular context of courting. Assigning a classy fee which you admit is subjective to an ethnicity isn't the comparable as ascribing fee as people. announcing, i do no longer fancy those with blond hair and honest pores and skin is unlike announcing they're inferior and should no longer be respected.

Very nice. I agree. I was in the Army too and that is the first place anyone had ever been racist against me. I thought..."wait a minute, aren't we all green and on the same team?" I hope everything works out nicely for you and thank you for serving our country.

Yeah, I experience the same thing. Some people are just close-minded. And since we are a big and fairly rich country, we haven't learned that there is much advantage to knowing and embracing diversity.

it's been taught to them by adults who learned it. It's a tradition thing. Thats why I say, it always starts at home. Our parents teach us things. Then when you go to school, other kids teach each other and it goes on and on. It spreads like a virus.
