Mosquito's are at the beginning of the food chain. I.e.in Alaska there is a little bird and its young ones feed on mosquitoes. after they hatch, those young ones have to feed themselves within a couple of days. To be able to do that there have to be masses of Mossies there (and up there you have to take a stick and poke a hole through them to be able to see the sun). But without the masses of mosquitoes the little birds couldn't survive.

liquidicy is right. Mosquitos are as beneficial as humans to the overall ecosystem and maybe a lot more. At least they are in the food chain.
