Well for those of you that have seen my previous questions about my completely irrational fears for my pregnancy, I was totally relieved today to see a wonderfully healthy little 12w 3d old fetus!
Actually saw the little hands and feet and more importantly, the heart beating at 173 bpm!
Baby measured 12w 3d so now have 3 due dates to choose from of :
7th july - 12w3d scan
10th july - LMP
13th July - 7w1d scan

Anyway just wanted to share my news! I'm very happy but still feel so unpregnant and it really hasn't sunk in that I am having a third baby! Arrgggh!!! I'm hoping to feel some kicks in the next few weeks and maybe that will hit it home for me!

Oh and here's my question.....with a high heartbeat of 173bpm, does the old wives tale say boy or girl? I'm getting major girl vibes but hoping I'm wrong and its a boy! (but anything healthy will be great!)

Congrats on all the good news...and I would want the soonest due date if I were you! Even if it's just a week early- it'll be an eternity by then. As for the HB there's no real connection since my little girl is a steady 143bpm and 'should' be a boy. But I'm with you...I don't care as long as my little one is healthy! Boy or girl is just perfect for me, although hubby was betting it was a boy.

Congrats.

At our 12 week ultrasound (baby measured 12 week 5 days), the heartbeat was high - around 160 bpm, so we were also suspecting a girl. Just had ultrasound at 18 weeks, heartbeat had gone down to 145bpm, and it is a BOY! So there may be some truth the anecdote that high heart-rate = girls, lower heart-rate = boys. In any event, 12 weeks is still early for that as heart-rate may change in the coming weeks.

As an aside, I would pick the 10th July for due date (although baby may have different ideas). We also have three different due dates but based on when we actually TTC, LMP was the right date for us.

Good luck.

Congrats. While the heartrate thing definitely is not a scientific method of determining gender, there are most certainly TRENDS. Girls do trend higher while boys trend lower. Since I have monitored thousands of babies in my profession, I have seen these trends for myself. It doesn't work for every baby though, so don't place too much faith in it.

Also, in early pregnancy, heart rates can be higher than they are in mid to late pregnancy. So it's too early to be guessing at this point. Also, they could have checked the rate during an acceleration which is well above the baby's baseline heart rate.

For best guessing, wait until later in the pregnancy. Normal range is from 110-160. Girls are more often higher, 140s-160s, boys are most often lower, 110s-130s. It worked for all 3 of my kids, but it might not for you.

Good luck.

The old wives tale says higher for girl and anything above 150 is in that range.....but it is just an old wives tale. I just had my daughter two weeks ago, and while pregnant I was a member of Whattoexpect.com a pregnancy message board. There are over 250 of us and we were curious about this old wives tale so we asked who should of had a girl based on the heartrate and it's definately just an old wives tale as too many of us had boys when they should of had girls. ;o) I recomend that site though, it's a great place to go to chat to other pregnant woman, and you sign up based on the month you are due so you all are experiencing the same things at the same times. Anyway, congrats!!!

CONGRATS!!!

I am so happy for you!!!! xxx

I don't believe the heat rate wives tale. I would say if your having girl vibes go with that! I knew my boys were boys, even if the doctors were saying something different!
Same as this pregnancy I knew I was having at least on girl!!

Won't be long and the baby will start kicking along!! Mine kick so much now, it is painful!! My daughter kicks right into my back, which isn't pleasant!!

I am so happy for you!!! Whatever you have, I hope he or she is born happy and healthy!
xxxxxxx

Heart beat can't tell you. Friend had a boy with a very fast heart beat. Another friend had slow heartbeat and the baby was a girl. Both told me that it was what they felt in their heart on what they were going to have. The Dr. say you make have a girl and from the pictures it look like it,but to her she felt a boy and he was born healthy. Take care.

Congrats! I know that u/s and seeing the baby takes away the worry of wondering if you really are pregnant and if everything is ok!

The old wives tale is boys have slower heartrates so going by that it's a girl but I wouldn't believe it 100%.
