I was pretty worried about using them for the first time too. But trust me you will never wanna change back. I use both, tampons and pads. Tampons heavier days... Pads lighter and nights.
I think tampons are great, you just have to make sure that you do not wear them over 8 hours. Even then... I keep like 2-3 hours sometimes 4. It says all this information you need to know about them pretty much in the box/packet.
Tell your mum to buy some, even if your not positive you'll use them. They are just good to have there. Like... I had asked my mum to buy some, but i just stuck to pads for a while. But then at school we were going on a whale watching trip... as you could imagine no toilets on boat to change pad. So I wore a pad and tampon. I got it in 5 minutes. Just need to take deep breathes for your first time. I was safe the whole day, not a worry in the world!
For me, not everyone just some people it hurts to take out, but its getting much better, so if thats what happens to you, don't let it put you off them.
If you do use them, I always wear a really slim pad or panty liner as well, in case of leakage.
They don't hurt, you just have to make sure that its in far enough. Like usually until the tip of your finger is in you. Also a tip is to put it in from an angle going up (make sure to take it out of the angle you put it in)
Umm... what else should you know...
TSS, toxic shock syndrome. It is when a tampon is left in too long and it actually turns your menstrual blood into poison for you body. Can be fatal. No need to worry about it though if its left in for 7 hours.
I would advise that you wear pads to bed though, TSS reasons... might over sleep...
Buy ones with str`ings.... lol sorry about that my cat hopped on keyboard XD strings** Because ones without can be forgotten about... :S When tampons are positioned correctly you should not feel anything.
They aren't bad for you, unless you leave it in too long, because again... TSS and it can collect all moisture from up there.
This is about all I can think of.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Good luck!!

they are excellent. no pain. just read the instructions that come in the box. Tampax is my prefered choice (and they come with GREAT instructions). They're so great that you will forget you even have your period for a few hours. good luck
