I classify myself as a moderate stutter and tend to trip up on certain words (ie. words that begin with the letter s) and have a hard time communicating clearly. I am currently debating if I should apply to pharmacy school. I have researched this career and believe that I am capable of handling all the stress and workload in science and math courses. However, I also realize that becoming a pharmacists means being an effective communicator, which is why public speaking is one of the pre-pharmacy courses. I also am aware that in pharmacy schools, many presentations are part of the class. Is anyone in the same position as me or has went through this before? I really need some guidance and advice to eliminate this fear.

Even with stuttering, you can follow any career path you choose. You can work on your speech like my uncles and cousins did by getting the Stuttering Foundation of America's book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" and working through it step by step. Stuttering can't be cured, but you will learn how to control it and will improve.

Because you are aware of your difficulty in oral communication, you already have a bit of control over it. You know how to slow down, start over, or work around the problem word. What you haven't mentioned is whether you've ever received any help such as from a speech therapist. It might be just what you need and might be available from the school where you want to study. You sound plenty intelligent. Go for it.
