The Thermal Specification for Intel Core 2 Duo processors varies for each processor. You can view the Thermal Specification temperature for your specific processor at: http://processorfinder.intel.com/Default.aspx

Just as an example, the popular E6600, has a 60.1 C Degree rating.

The process as measure by the end user, of course, varies greatly. You can see the temperature of your Core 2 Duo processor with this app: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Intel Core 2 Duo Temperature

The first generation of Core2 Duo Conroe, Allendale and the Pentium E21xx series had 61.4 °C TDP. The new ones w/ 1333mHz fsb have 60.1 °C TDP. The E4500 and E4600 have 73.3 °C TDP.

B3, G0 and M0 stepping have maximum T junction (core) temperature of 100°C, while B2 and L2 stepping have 85°C Tj Max.

Typically, with C1E enabled, idle case temp would just be about 1-2 °C above ambient while T junction or core temp would be about 10 to 15°C above ambient. At normal load, depending on cooler and case ventilation, processor case temp could be 15-20°C above ambient and core temp at about 25-30°C above ambient. Expect higher temperatures at full load (intense gaming, Orthos, or Prime 95) are when overclocking.

intel states that the maximum safe operating temperature for its core2 range processors is 70 gdegrees an temperature above this is considered damaging for those of us who dont enjoy risking our hardware we like to be below 60 in performance programs from asus (a leading motherboard manufaturer) there waring signal goes at 65 degrees also how are you getting these temps uless thay are from a program that accseses the temperature diode inside the processor or is the temperature reading in yur bios than it is probably incorect have fun and enjoy i hope you havent asked this becuse of high tempertures but out of curiosity if you have asked becuse of high temperatures i hope the problem is resolved

Mine's 35 degrees Celcius at idle; goes up to near 50 when working. 2.6 GHz, stock cooling. YMMV.
