I'm talking about the "discovery" of the "new world" and the fact that there was no CONQUEST yet European colonies IMPOSED rule over the lands.

rephrase:

What would North America be like today if European Colonizers respected the Native American Nations right to the lands they occupied?

Hmmm - - - what skewers your question is that with the Spanish in South America there is no way that Europeans mould not have invaded North America - - - and yes for all the unbelievers out there Mexico is considered North America and so even more problematical that Europeans would not have invaded the rest of the land mass...

But suppose some twinge of concience kept the Europeans from invading (Gee, maybe they actually read the Bible) - - - then one can imagine a North America with its forests intact, species such as the Carrier Pigeon still alive & flying - - - a place where the Buffalo still roamed the Prairie in large herds. A pristine 'haven' without polluted water & scarred landscapes. A wonderful balance between Native Man/Woman and animals & plants - - - the closest you might find in the modern world of 2007 would be the regions of Mongloia and parts of Siberia ....

I agree that conquest would be inevitable. But by whom?

It all depends on when North America would be discovered. If we are talking about 1800s, the other non-European countries that would be good candidates are Japan and China. If it were the 1950s, then I'd put my money on the Soviet Union.

Then again, you can also safely assume that if the Japanese or any other non-European country ruled over North America, that the Europeans would end up killing everyone and eventually come to rule it anyways.

The third option is what if North America was never discovered and the Indians or Native Americans created a nation. In this case, North America would be turned into a tribal third world continent.

If the europeans did not colonize the "new world", it would have been done by the arabs. result? same as in North Africa- what was the grain basket of the Roman Empire struggles today to feed a few thousand people.

If the "native americans" were allowed to rule for themselves? Nothing much would have changed. The level of industrial development was at stone age level with very few tribes able to smelt copper. The "borderline" tribes would have developped from trade, leading to the anihilation of inland tribes (look up the Huron war). Pretty much like the worse bits of Africa

If a footballer wants to play for England, he'll need to have English grandparents, at the very least. However, it's bad enough that EPL teams are flooded by foreigners to even think of the national team flooded by "imported" players!

North America is a continent which includes Canada, The United States, and Mexico. Without being ruled by Europe, I would imagine those countries would be pretty much the way they ARE NOW.

North America or are you specifying a particular part of North America? Perhaps Canada?

As far as I'm aware, the US isn't run by anyone else. Not arrogance, just how I see the whole thing. Please specify what you mean if you mean the USA in particular.

maybe it will not be as powerful as today. without any influence by strong nations, north america will not be as strong as their country today. still lucky for them to be colonized by europeans.
