Would other countries be willing to pay this for the merchandise that is manufactured there, or would they in turn bring it back to their own country to be made.

If that will happen, definitely, China's products may not be competitive with others of same product category for even a slight difference in terms of cost, other known quality products of other countries shall dominate the consumer market.

But, sorry to say, China will not change its manufacturing and production strategy (for export dominance worldwide) based on low labor cost, and least production costs, even to use alternative materials to produce almost same looking and functional products, in all categories.

Labor shall in general will remain low low and almost unattainable by other producing countries, regardless of its economic status. China has tremendous surplus of labor force...and training is continuous...

....and they feel the need to take advantage of China's progressing various provinces and cities....a rapid and wider migration is even being put to proper control, due to its over flowing labor force...not even counting those outside of China...in higher level of supervision and management....

China has a taste of democracy but is not fully democratic....and therefore...the State has a legislative power to drive their economy in their decisive rule...and even their Currency...not even USA has lured China to change or move even a good bit...to give fair worldwide
sense of fair and balance Export/Import trading...so they were (China) surpassed by business acumen...the bright supposed America....

Therefore, I regret to say, China will enjoy NON-STOP its good advantage of labor cost to acclaim fast progresses....and hasten...power intent???!!!....I believe....it had previous giant dream....isn't it?

If you take a look at China it is in a boom right now. And for China they do have a fair pay rate, that is why many factories are leaving China for Vietnam and other poorer countries.
As china Builds its infrastructure and the Huge Middle Class in China Grows the Rate of Pay will Grow to. China is pretty much were we were in the late Forties and early Fities.
They are a country that is in the procses of moving from a third world to a first world countryand they are doing it fast, and smart.
They have a coheisive energy policy and building roads and other infrastructure at a pace that only they can do. as they do things will change
