A dry ice bomb is a simple bomb-like device. While the simplicity and ease of construction, high bursting pressure, and sound make the dry ice bomb attractive for recreational purposes, they can be unpredictable and dangerous

LEGALITY

Dry ice bombs are illegal in many jurisdictions.

In California the relevant law defines a dry ice bomb as: "any sealed device containing dry ice (CO2) or other chemically reactive substances assembled for the purpose of causing an explosion by a chemical reaction." A dry ice bomb explodes due to a physical phase change rather than any chemical process, but making one might be a felony that carries a fine of $10,000

DANGER

Dry ice bombs have some serious risks:

Premature explosion. Burst pressure can occur within seconds, injuring the handler.
The shock wave can be extremely loud. Permanent hearing damage can occur even at substantial distances.
Shrapnel poses a danger to anyone in the vicinity of the device.
In many areas dry ice bombs are illegal. Some documented examples include the U.S. states of Arizona, California, and Nebraska but even elsewhere the noise generated may violate local laws.
Leaving an unexploded dry ice bomb can be construed as public endangerment.
Arrests are frequent. Injuries have been reported, and bomb-makers have been known to sustain severe injuries if they are holding the device when it explodes.

Bombs which do not explode are a major safety problem. They cannot be left, yet cannot be safely approached.

Yes.
First of all when a dry ice bomb goes off you have a chance of going deaf and the shrapnel can kill and break windows and secondly you have to be 18 to buy dry ice in san francisco it can also harm ppl around you o and laracrof adry ice bomb wont blow anything near it up all that happens is the compression of gasses from the dry ices expands a container to the bursting point o and there really unpredictaple with timing it could go off 2 seconds after you close or 5 minutes I think it goes under arsen

A bomb is classified as an incendiary device intended to cause grevious bodily harm, property damage, and mass destruction. A dry ice bomb falls between a gray area in these terms. There is no incendiary mechanisms of which to speak. There is, however, the shrapnel created when the container the dry ice is in explodes. I would recommend detonating your dry ice bombs in a secluded area far from the prying eyes of your local law enforcers. Have fun and count your fingers afterwards.

If you are going to make one of these, use a plastic milk jug. This type of container usually just splits open without sending pieces of plastic flying everywhere. The police might be more lenient if they catch you with a device that is not harmful.
